Furthermore, IPL treats a much larger area of skin per light pulse than laser, which makes the treatment much faster and more cost effective than laser hair removal.
IPL hair removal emits light at wavelengths to be absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle (pigment gives hair its color). The IPL is then pulsed only for a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to disrupt the hair follicle.
When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, energy is converted into heat and these results in thermal damage to the hair follicle. This thermal damage causes delayed re-growth of the hair resulting in permanent destruction of the hair follicle.
